Setting up your mail

You can read your mail in the browser without setting anything up. Use the settings below when you want it on your phone, in Outlook, or in any other mail app.

Your settings

Incoming, IMAPmail.nelanor.studio, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing, SMTPmail.nelanor.studio, port 587, STARTTLS
Port 465 with SSL/TLS works too, if your app prefers it.
Usernameyour full address, for example you@nelanor.studio
Passwordan app password, not your sign-in password

Make an app password first

Mail apps get their own password, so you can revoke one device without changing anything else. Your sign-in password stays for the browser only.

  1. Open your account page and sign in with your email address and your usual password.
  2. Under Make an app password, name it after the device, for example "iPhone" or "work laptop", type your password once more, and choose Make app password.
  3. Copy it straight away. It is shown once and never again.

The same page lists your app passwords, so you can revoke one when a device is lost or sold, and it is where you change your own password.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Settings, then Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts, then Add Account.
  2. Choose Other, then Add Mail Account.
  3. Enter your name, your full address and the app password.
  4. Choose IMAP, then fill in the incoming and outgoing servers from the table above. Use the same username and app password in both.

Android

  1. In Gmail, tap your picture, then Add another account, then Other.
  2. Enter your full address and choose Personal (IMAP).
  3. Enter the app password, then the servers from the table above.

Thunderbird

Type your name, your full address and the app password. Thunderbird finds the rest by itself. If it asks, choose IMAP rather than POP3, so your mail stays on the server and matches what you see everywhere else.

Outlook

Current versions of Outlook no longer look these settings up on their own, so enter them by hand.

  1. File, then Add Account, then type your full address.
  2. Choose Advanced setup, then IMAP.
  3. Fill in both servers and ports from the table above, and use the app password.

Contacts on your phone

Your address book syncs over CardDAV. Add a CardDAV account with the server account.nelanor.studio and the same address and app password. On iPhone that is Settings, then Apps, then Contacts, then Accounts, then Add Account, then Other.
